With the advent of today's high-tech society many individuals are now putting themselves, or their businesses online. In the past this used to be only done by the geekiest of geeks. Well with the dawn of the 21st century the age of the Geek is now upon us, and people of all tech levels are venturing into the wild world of online domain hosting. So what is website hosting and how does it work? Well for starters you will need a domain name. Domain names identify your site online and allow people to find it by way of Google and other search options. Domain names typically end in .com or .org. To purchase one of these you will need to visit an online company that sells domain names, such as VIP Hosting. Typically the cost of a domain is between $9.00 and $12.00, but if your chosen name is something popular it can cost you up around $20 or more. Once you have a domain, you will need to build a website using a desktop software application or online with companies. For the purpose of this article we will assume that you have already built a site and are ready to go. Once you have your domain name and your site is ready to roll you will need to connect your site with your domain. This is done by accessing your name servers or DNS (Domain Name Servers) and either upload your website or point you domain at your site that is online. Essentially your domain name is an easy way of finding your site online. Domains exist because a person isn't going to be able to remember IP addresses, which resemble a complex math problem (i.e. 30.25.127.555 is a random sample IP address). In order to synch your domain with your site you will need to access your DNS and point it towards your IP address. This will tell your computer and every other computer that should point to 30.25.127.55. Now that we have both a domain name, and name servers pointing visitors to the correct places let's move onto hosting. As I mentioned before if you site is online already then all you have to do is point your domain at your online site and boom, you are in business. However if you built your site on your desktop then you will need to stick around. A website is a collection of secure HTML code, CSS code, flash, text, and graphics all rolled up into an attractive package called a construct. Each set of HTML, CSS, text, and graphics is a file that has been assembled and put together to form a website. All these files reside on a server. Thus essentially when you pay for website hosting in Oklahoma City, you are paying an outside company to host your files on their servers. http://vipinternethosting.com/
