Gender base violence has prevailed despite the intervention of the United Nations charter against it. It is defined as wrong application of power on the vulnerable members of the family or the society at large. It is expressed in verbal abuse, which results in various forms of emotional pain. It could be an oppression of human rights. And it could also be explained by infliction of physical pain by one gender to another. While this subject is sometimes associated with culture, here it is addressed from the global point of view: 1. Verbal abuse – is more common because perpetrators know that they will not be found out. It includes subtle lack of affection in normal conversation and promotes low self-esteem because the victims develop gradual low self esteem and constant fear of being ridiculed. 2. Oppression of human rights – is common within family unit where a spouse withhold financial resources to the other party. It spills over even on areas where the other seek to improve ability to access wealth such as engaging is part-time studies to qualify for higher position. 3. Infliction of physical pain – During the last ten years governments have been under pressure to stop any form of violence and this is even more difficult because these laws are enacted by men who are majority in law making governments structures. The worse and most traumatizing pain is that victims will not disclose other forms like sexual abuse. Women suffer silently because such matters are not discussed outside the marriage and are therefore difficult to be eradicated. Sexual issues under the gender based violence need to be looked at as requiring education for both men and women. Practically, children learn by imitating their parents. This then denotes that the issue of increasing rape cases clearly shows that parents must first be role models. Some people associate the increasing incidents of rape with information explosion caused by everybody owning mobile phones with access to the internet. Whatever the cause, we all agree that there is an increase in gender base violence globally.
