try blender 3d. although its not easy to use blender 3d coz of the interface but it is extremely powerfull and u can check out the tutorials to learn using it. since it is an open source project, u will get tutorials very easily. find blender 3d at: http://www.blender3d.org

well although i always used the professional version at my institute. you can try to find out on the autodesk website support. they have a very special package for students and that is eigther free or very cheap. you can learn that and also do freelance work on that and that will be legal. i think you can get that. or else try to find GMAX which is just like max but few features are taken off. or try blender. i think it is free. thanks Amitav Roy http://www.creativeporta.com
