Why running can help us keep healthy?

I've read a book, in which it is said that running can help us keep healthy.Many people also advise me to run as often as possible to lose weight.But I wonder what the reason is.

I think that running can help keep us healthy, but walking too. Most of us have a lack in moving our bodies due to modern life, thus it is good if we make enough steps every day. :)

Yes people run for other reasons. I see people walking too. I think some people have dogs just so they can feel safe and normal about walking.

I think just exercise helps because it burns off calories that would turn to fat reserve if we just sat around?

Thank you for your response!It's simple but I think you are right.Running is a popular sport in cities now,so I think maybe there are some other reasons which make those who are not heavy run every day.
