America has a love affair with food in general, considering Americans consume on average about a ton of food per year--and that's per person! This food zealousness begs to lend itself to a top ten favorite foods list.
Hamburgers are the most consumed food in America, bar none. Burgers certainly have a foothold in the country. Restaurant chains like In N Out Burger, McDonalds, Burger King and so on ensure burgers will be around for years to come. With hot dog vendors all the more popular on street corners and in food trucks, this staple of American food is here to stay. Very popular brands like Nathan's, Ball Park and Oscar Meyer are readily available at grocery stores.
With a misleading name, French fries are commonly eaten with hamburgers and hot dogs around the country. They have even established a foothold as a stand-alone food choice on some occasions. Oreos have become a brand all by themselves. There have been many attempts to copy the popular cookie by generic and store brands. If you're proactive enough, recipes exist so that you can try to make your own version.
Surprisingly, pizza is only the fifth most loved food in America. With chains such as Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, Little Ceasars, Picasso's and many more, pizza is more accessible than all of the previously aforementioned foods.
Soda is the most consumed beverage in the United States by a large margin, even though it's not technically a food. Chicken tenders are a versatile way to eat a very popular meat without the hassle of bones. Usually, tenders are deep fried and made with the white breast meat of chickens.
America's favorite dessert, ice cream has a storied history. Even with all of the different brands, none has managed to capture the taste of true homemade ice cream. A popular breakfast food, donuts are fried pieces of dough that are then glazed with liquified sugar. They are quite the addictive treat. Potato chips also have a long history in American cuisine. Chips are considered the number one snack food in America. A crunchy, salty treat, it's often hard to eat just one--which happens to be the slogan for Lay's, a leading producer and seller of potato chips.
However, now making it’s mark on American cuisine is Asian food from China to Japan to Taiwan. American enjoy this food because it’s somewhat healthy and offers something new to food culture in such a diverse country.
