Remedies for cracked ribs?

I cracked a rib falling on the sidewalk and it sure hurts. I can hardly do anything without it hurting. Can't even get my gear shift put into park. I have to use my left hand. It is also hard to sleep on that side so I get really stiff from sleeping on one side. Called my Dr. for some stronger pain pills but haven't heard back yet. I understand I need to be careful for up to 8 weeks. That will be hard to do as I have a big yard to take care of. Guess I could hire someone but that gets expensive.
