Dear all, I have study english 6 years since I entered my university. But I am still not able to talk to my foreign friends with english. After much cogitation,I find three problems which make me can't speak english well. Firstly, the number of vocabulary which I have rembered is about 2000, it is so less that I can't study english well. Secondly, I am very timid when talk to someone with english. I am afraid of speaking wrong english that my foreign friends don't understand. Thirdly,my english grammar is so bad. In my opinion,I can speak chinese well, but I really don't know Chinese grammar,so I think if I read many english articles and speak english frequently, I will use english very well as my chinese. But I don't often speak and write english. Now, I am in a foreign company, I must improve my english level. So I come here for help, and I wish to make many friends and study knowledge in many field and improve my english in this website. From now on ,I will write 2 to 3 articles in this website every week.
Welcome to supervise my work and comment my article to exchange our idea. Maybe I can teach you some chinese. Thank you all very much.

Hi Bruce, you are making the effort and that is good.
There are many English who do not speak the language correctly, cannot read and write it either. May I suggest you just keep on doing what you are doing and with practice and patience it will come.
Do not be afraid of asking for help or asking people to speak slower or to repeat what they have said, people would be very pleased to help you if only you would ask.
I would advise that your best course of action is to watch and read items aimed at English children this will give you a better basic understanding, my sister teaches English to Germans and uses children's books to start with.
There is no shame in not being fluent it takes time and patience.
As a person who has tried to learn 3 languages and failed I am one of those people who will only ever succeed in speaking 1.

Hello Bruce,
I had the same problem few years back, below are few points that helped me,
• Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Be confident. People can only correct your mistakes when they hear you make them.
• Surround yourself in English. Put yourself in an all English speaking environment where you can learn passively. The best way to learn is through speaking.
• Practice every day. Make yourself a study plan. Decide how much time a week you are going to spend studying and stick to it. Establish a routine.
• Tell your family and friends about your study plan. Get them to push you to study and also don’t let them interrupt you.
• Practice the 4 core skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. They all need to be worked on for you to improve.
• Keep a notebook of new words you learn. Use them in sentences and try to say them at least 3 times when you speak.
I hope these help you as well.
