When designing a new home you should consider what story you want the house to tell. One way to tell a great story be designing a new home is to consider illumination, diversity, and uniqueness. Illumination Illumination is very important when it comes to designing a new home. Through the use of windows and lighting you can create a different feel in every room. When you want to create an open and carefree environment natural light is best. Utilizing several big windows in the main living area allows the option of lighting with sunlight during the day thereby decreasing electric consumption. Not only does the use of natural light decrease electric consumption it also has a positive impact on one’s perception of the environment. When you want to create a more relaxed atmosphere you should consider mood lighting. Recessed lights connected to a dimmer switch are perfect for a bathroom or bedroom. Dimmed lights can create the perfect environment to ease the stress of a long busy day. Diversity Home should be a place that brings comfort. Too little or too much sensory stimulation is undesirable. The right balance of diversity in our environment can keep boredom at bay. However, too much diversity can create a stressful environment and make you want to flee. Several different textures of materials should be used to create a diverse atmosphere. Different types of wood, stone, tile fabric, and paint can be used to create diversity. The possibilities are endless. Uniqueness Every home should be just as unique as it’s inhabitants. Personalizing a home transforms it into a one of a kind masterpiece. I recently remodeled my bathroom by adding meaningful materials and pieces together. My husband put in a drop ceiling made from barn wood taken from my grandparents farm. We put rocks that we collected from our favorite kayaking spot around our Jacuzzi tub. The walls are the color we woke up to every morning of our honeymoon, the color of the Caribbean Sea. When I walk into my bathroom and I see the remnants of my life adorning the room, I am reminded of what matters most in life, creating beautiful memories with the ones I love.
