Do you agree?

I had just read this in our church HWMR.. It said that: "We love something not because we are capable of loving; rather, it is because a certain thing is lovable and we are drawn to love it. We are very reluctant to love something that is not lovable, but it is difficult for us to refrain from loving something that is lovable."

I agree that we don't necessarily love just because we are mentally and emotionally able to, but I don't fully agree with what we tend to love. Clearly, we love obviously "lovable" things. The only reason they're described as lovable is because they are able to be loved. I think what the quote means by a "thing that is lovable" is something like a teddy bear or a puppy. I think what it means by "something that is not lovable" is maybe a mean person or a rainstorm. But people ARE drawn to love things that aren't good, as one would expect something "lovable" to be. For example, there's the classic notion of a girl being attracted to the "bad boy" in a story, and in real life sometimes people do very quickly feel love for people who treat them badly. I don't think there's really a definitive answer for why or what we tend to love.

Yes I do agree on that too @kali leona... People tend to love those people who treat them badly and sometimes don't care about those who treat them well. Thanks for responding :)

When I read anything about love I always ask myself what does the writer mean by love? It seems to be different for many. I think the writer is talking about the kind of love when we have an attraction too but maybe I kind of respect as well? Yes I agree.

@bluedoll yeah I do agree on what you said... Love has many meanings it depends upon the writer of what was his definition of love... Thanks for responding
