Why do we cry when we cut Onions ??

an enzime in onions effects us when we cut them but only if it gets to the back of your throat so if you dont want to cry when cutting onions, keep your mouth shut

it is not cursed! it's like it has a gas that irritate you eyes whenever you cut it. but there's a way to avoid crying while doing it. you may soak it to a cold water first for about 1 minute or just put goggles on!

Here in India also people believe that Lord Shiva got angry and cursed onion. But I think that some chemical or gas comes out when we cut onion and when it contacts our eyez, tears come out.

I'm not sure. But I do know that chewing gum while cutting an onion will keep you from crying.

I really dont know why. When I cut onions I put a toothpick in my mouth and it stops you from crying.

I thought we cry because some substance that is emitted from the onion hits our nasal membranes, which in turn activates the tear glands. I have noticed I don't get tears when I have a scarf tied on my nose while cutting onions.
