In the UK, it is mostly post offices which sell stamps. However, some newsagents and tourist shops sell books of first class and second class stamps for standard inland letter rates. These no longer have a value printed on them, so if you need any other rates, for a large letter, a package or for sending overseas, you usually have to take the item to the post office to have it weighed and assessed for size so that the correct postal rate can be paid.
Most special or commemorative issue stamps are only available from post offices and official 'first day issue' postings can usually only be bought through the Post Office.
