one student in the tutorials center where i am working blurted this out:
"i am not a nerd! nobody should be called a nerd! even if you wear big glasses, small glasses, braces, or whatever ugly things you have--you shall never be called a nerd!"
this is from an eight-year old boy. cool, isnt it?

Nerd, as a stereotypical or archetypal
designation, refers to somebody who
passionately pursues intellectual
interests - such as books and video
games - at the expense of social skills,
especially ineptitude at dating.
However, not all nerds are alike, and
there is a great deal of variation in
the interests pursued; the one common
factor is social ineptitude and
passionate fixation on an uncommon
interest.

Classically a nerd is a person that is not stylist and socially inept because they are more devoted learning than devloping socially.
The term nerd is used as an insult. I do not think it should be...it sould be used to compliment one on the devotion to learning and intellegence!
Yeah for that 8 yr old boy!
