Life style and not family history is the greater risk for Diabetes. One of my family friends, who is working as Share broker, was shocked to find that he and his wife were diagnosed with diabetes. Insisting that nobody in their family suffers from the disease and couple had their blood sugar tested thrice. Like this couple, there are many in the country for whom a poor lyfe style has proved to be a bigger risk factor than family history. They usually have more than average weight, have no time to exercise and habit of eating fried snacks daily. By a recent study conducted by a government agency, it was found that 45% of the patients had family history, while 55% had no such history. Poor lift style was consistent among all the 55% of patients. This underlines poor life style as a greater risk factor for diabetes. It is found that people who have family history, tend to become care less about their life style, saying that they will manage the disease when they get it. Whereas those with no family history do not switch to healthy life style, saying that they have no family history of diabetes. It is believed that people with a family history of diabetes have 35% higher chances of getting the disease. With consumption of fast food increasing, we now get teenagers in the 15-18 age group with diabetes. This is Alarming.
