Close on the heels of his US trip, the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi had another triumphant visit to Australia. He seems to have emerged as a global leader, whose words count.
Having raised unprecedented expectations among NRI and world leaders, he surely realized that it will require herculean effort to meet these sky-high expectation. In India, people are excited as well as apprehensive.
Recent history shows that our high hopes were repeatedly dashed to the ground many times in past. Modi has raised the stakes enormously. Popular and empty rhetoric can not hoodwink people any longer. Modi is trying hard to respond to the complex ground reality. If he is successful in implementing domestic reforms, he will join the ranks of global leaders, who changed destiny of their countries. Though, Modi does not have the degree of freedom as that of Deng Xiaoping, Margret Thatcher, Lee Kuan Yew to implement the reforms, because of our federal structure. He knows that only bold and out of box initiatives alone will take India forward. But these reforms will have to be sold to the public. Will Sales Man raise to the occasion is a million dollar question.
