Recovery from ACDF surgery

I'm due to have acdf surgery on C5-C6 on 12/7/06. I've seen various recoveries on line. My ortho surgeon will be doing the surgery. I had a mild MVA with whiplash. I've done the med's, physical therapy (total of 7 months), 2 cervical epidurals and have only gotten worse. My ortho dr says this surgery will help my neck and mid back. My family dr says not to expect both areas of pain to go away. Is there always physical therapy, and how long? I currently travel to Philly by train for 1 1/2 hrs each way and pull my 15 lb laptop on wheels. I also have to carry it down steps. My company thinks I should be back in 4 weeks, and if I need PT to do it in Philly. I know nothing about Philly and wouldn't consider it. How has recovery gone for others? My ortho does say about 4 week recovery - being off work w/PT if needed. I'm 53 and also have fibromyalgia being diagnosed since 1985. Any advice would be appreciated.
