What color is wood?

Wood can rarely be described as simply 'brown'. Cut and planed wood may naturally be any colour from nearly white through various shades of yellow, orange, green and red to black. Marquetry is the art of using small and intricately cut pieces of wood to make pictures using the (mostly) natural colours, shades and textures of wood. You can see some excellent examples at the following site. Since I note that you are interested in computer art, you might draw some inspiration from these in using parts of photos of natural wood!
