Have 4 monitors can I use an hdmi 1x4 splitter ?

I have 4 monitors.So i need an hdmi 1x4 splitter to manage them at same time. I just bought four comp monitors, and wondering because I have 1 video card with an hdmi,vga,and dvi port and both my monitors have hdmi ports and I want the best quality connectionfor them.So can I buy an hdmi 1x4 splitter for both of them, or do I have to just use 2 ports from my video card for it ? Because I would rather just split the connection for the better quality. Dvi and hdmi are pretty much the same Quality,both digital signals. i dont believe an hdmi 1x4 splitter would work. At all. unless you wanted the same picture on both monitors then maybe but doubtful.A monitor/TV can be detected via HDMI and your graphics card wont be expecting 2 on the same cable.
