Why is not my hdmi splitter working with my reciever ?

I have my hdmi splitter plugged into my hdmi out on my reciever.With the 2 outputs on the splitter.I have my monitor and tv plugged into it using hdmi. I turn on my reciever,with my cable box on,and both my tv and monitor show display for about a second then cut out.If i turn my tv off it says no signal on my monitor.If i turn my monitor off my tv says the same. Have any suggestions? All i want to do is be able to switch between my monitor and tv which one i use without having to unplug and plug in the hdmi cords. Because who wants to play a pc on a tv by an hdmi splitter ? or watch tv or play xbox on a monitor ? This article is provided by
