I have a friend who has been working in a company for over a year since then. She has been working straight without any issues regarding on tardiness and absences. She might not be as competent and good as the other employees, but she has been doing here best to serve and has been portraying loyalty and dedication to her work and has not created serious issues on the company.... What could be the possible reason why the company needs to lay her off?... Thanks!

I think you already have the answer - competence. In a very competitive environment where there are a lot of people vying for one job, some employers have the upper hand when it comes to filling in the position. I suggest your friend should take a look at her employment contract especially the part where it states the expectations and how her work is going to be measured. Sometimes, being "good" is not enough, sometimes you have to deliver in order to help the organization earn more.
