How many people agree to girls changing their surnames after marriage?

I think its up to the individual woman. Some may feel like that taking on their husbands last name is like losing their identity, or their family. Others simply prefer that statement of independence. I personally would like to change my last name when I get married, the wedding is in March so yay for me :D

Deffenitly! It's tradition! I don't think they should have to (Which they don't) but it's nice to have the option although I feel taking the man's name makes it more official :)

I don't care if anyone else does it, but I never would. For me it would be similar to one of the above statements about prefering to keep my name and not being automatically "absorbed" by my husband's family. My husband has a different last name from his mother, and I don't necessarily think that having the same surname is what being a family is about. I don't know what my husband and I are going to do when we have children-I always jokingly say that anything that comes out of my body, I get to name-but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I got married three months ago, and I didn't change my last name. I won't correct people if they call me Mrs. Burchat instead of Mrs. Thompson, but I really just didn't want the hassle of changing all of my information to reflect a new last name. I also don't like how its assumed by some that a woman is supposed to change her last name to her husbands. Why shouldn't the husband change his last name to hers? Or at least do a joint name or something.
