Ride & Gather, All Roads Lead to Beijing and Assisting Olympic Bidding --- Uncovering Routes of Grand Cycling Activity 1

As a grand cycling activity which is vigorously promoted by Beijing International Cycle Expo and Beijing Cycling Festival Organizing Committee in 2015, Ride & Gather, All Roads Lead to Beijing and Assisting Olympic Bidding is an important activity of Beijing International Cycle Expo 2015 and Cycling Festival and will be held annually. As China’s largest cycle expo and cycling festival based in Beijing jointly created by China Bicycle Association and HAOSI International, Beijing International Cycle Expo 2015 and the 4th Beijing Cycling Festival will be held in Beijing BaDaLing International Exhibition Center in June 26-28, 2015. The Organizing Committee works closely with near 100 clubs from the 18 key cities, promoting the large-scale activity Ride & Gather, All Roads Lead to Beijing and Assisting Olympic Bidding which will cover 12 provinces and municipalities, 50 northern cities and attract around 1000 cyclists. With 6 professional cycling routes, this half-month long ride will make the scope of this Cycle Expo and Cycling Festival cover lots of cities in the north instead of restricting in the expo site, disseminating bicycle sportsmanship and bicycle culture and advocating “green travel”, low-carbon and eco-friendly concept and healthy lifestyle. Route 1—Northeast China Route The club in the city where the route begins: Harbin GHOST Bicycle Club Contact: Mr. Song Contact: 18646347118 Northeast China Route starts from Harbin (Flood Prevention Memorial Tower), Changchun, Tieling, Shenyang, Panjin, Huludao, Qinghuangdao, Yanjiao, Tian’anmen to Yanqing. This ride will take 14 days approximately, covering 1398 kilometers. Located in the northeast of China, with the winding Songhua River and ice and snow as beautiful as pearls, Harbin is the start of this route and the place where ancient China met the European civilization. Harbin Flood Prevention Memorial Tower is in the Zhongdain Square, Zhongyang Street, Jiang’an, Daoli District and was built in memory of people in Harbin who defeated 1957 Catastrophic Flood (catastrophic flood happened in 1957). The cool breeze skims over the black soil in Northeast China. The Northeast China Route starts from here! Along the Northeast China Route are multiple historic sites: The Puppet Manchurian Palace Museum in Changchun transformed from the Royal Palace of Aixinjueluo• Fuyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1616-1912 AD), witnessing military occupation of northeast China and implementation of the fascist colonial rule by the Japanese imperialists, Palace Museum of Manchu and Mongolian style in Shenyang built nearly 400 years ago, witnessing magnificence and majesty of Nuerhachi and Huangtaiji, founders of the Qing Dynasty(1616-1912 AD), Shanhai Pass, China’s No.1 Pass, of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644 AD), in Qinhuangdao, witnessing wisdom and intelligence of ancient working people and rigor of ancient China’s border. Jiangnushi Sites in Suizhong County, a large building site group of the Qin Dynasty(221-207 BC)quire well preserved and excavated, witnessing the unification of the country in the Qin Dynasty(221-207 BC), an ancient human project well combining cultural architectures and natural landscape. Visitors surely want to tour along this route and appreciate historical events and sites. In addition to historic sites, unique scenery in Northeast China is extremely attractive, such as vast Songliao Plain, Chongshou Temple Pagoda, wetlands in Bohai Bay with waterfowl, Beidaihe with natural bathing beaches. Cyclists surely appreciate the beautiful scenery on the way. Cycling along this route, we will enjoy rich culture and the wind from Northeast China. This wind shows us the geological geomorphology, natural landscape, history and culture of Northeast China which is also called the Black Land for the soil in this area is black. The colonial history of the Black Land arouses our patriotism, inspiring us to change ourselves, start small, cherish the life we have now, remember the past and create a better future. Route 2—Coastal Route The club in the city where the route begins: Qingdao Dayouleqi Bicycle Club Contact: Mr. Liu Contact: 13963981789 This route starts form Qingdao City, Moyan’s hometown Gaomi City (Moyan, Nobel Prize in Literature winner) , Weifang City, Binzhou City, Huanghua City, Tianjin( Qingwu), Beijing Changping District to Yanqing County. This ride will take 8 days approximately, covering 790 kilometers. As one of the birthplaces of Taoism, this route borders Qingdao in the east, vast hinterland in the west, extending along the middle section of China’s northern coastline. Qingdao is in fact a peninsula, connecting the sea and the land, witnessing beautiful environment, magnificent buildings and green trees, blue sea and skies, rated as “China’s most livable city”. It was established in 1891 when the government of the Qing Dynasty (1616-1912 AD),garrison troops. In 1897, Germany rented land and constructed the port and railway, making Qingdao famous. With the development of the urban area, this city takes lead in China in terms of transport, construction, communication, education and scientific research. As a cultural city, Qingdao hosts multiple historic sites, witnessing 3 visits by the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty(221-207 BC), Xu Fu sailing eastward. It is also a dynamic city. Cycling along its streets, cyclists surely appreciate its vitality and passion, harmony and progress. This route starts in May Fourth Square, highlighting certain exotic elegance and peninsula romance. Visitors surely appreciate the original rustic folk culture. Gaomi City has its willow branch ash New Year pictures, clay sculptures and paper-cutting known as China’s folk treasures. The well-known film and television dramas Red Sorghum made Gaomi go global. Mo Yan, a Nobel Prize winner, was born in Gaomi. Weifang Kite appeared in Lu State in the Zhou Dynasty(1029-771 BC)and became popular in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD). As an intangible cultural heritage, it is a traditional handicraft of the Han Chinese in Weifang, Shandong. As the birthplace of the kite culture, Weifang hosts the International Kite Federation headquarters and International Kite Festival. With a long history of handicrafts, Weifang has kites, woodblock New Year pictures, cloth toys, silver inlaid lacquer wares, nut carvings, embroidery and other traditional crafts renowned at home and abroad. Yantai apples, Laiyang pears and Weixian radish are famous local products. Hot pot, noodles with chicken and duck, baked cakes, mutton and other snacks in Weifang surely attract cyclists. North of Weifang, Binzhou used to be an estuary of the Yellow River. As a bright pearl near the Bohai Sea, in Shandong, Binzhou witnessed multiple celebrities such as Sun Tsu, founder of the Art of War, the Yellow River culture and Qi culture. Cyclists surely appreciate the ancient Yellow River culture and the current vitality. With a cultivation history of more than 500 years, the local winter and golden thread jujube is characterized by tender and juicy flesh, fine taste, rich nutrient, and being free from residue, known as “living vitamin pill”, “fruit champion” and “world’s wonder”. More north, cyclists will arrive in Tianjin. Tianjin served as a hub of water transport of grain to the capital for 600 years, creating its integrated Chinese and Western, ancient and modern cultures. Riding along the Haihe River, cyclists surely appreciate cozy life of Tianjin citizens, such as tea party and crosstalk. Passing through Italian Elegance Street, cyclists surely appreciate perfect ancient and modern architectural cultures. Beijing- Tianjin Campaign Memorial makes visitors cherish the hard-won peace era. Route 3—Yangze River and Hui River Route The club in the city where the route begins: AHbike.net Contact: Mr. Li Contact: 18655150419 This route starts from Hefei Anhui, Bengbu, Xuzhou, Zaozhuang, Tengzhou, Ji’nan, Dezhou, Cangzhou, Tianjin, Beijing Changping District, to Yanqing. This ride will take 10 days approximately, covering 1211 kilometers. This route is characterized by profound history and culture. Named Luzhou and Luyang in ancient times, located in the coastal hinterland, and the edge of the inland, Hefei serves as a transport hub in all directions, known as “a hub south of the Yangtze River and west of the Huaihe River” and “a hub of the Central Plains”. More north, cyclists will have a chance to visit Xuzhou Museum. Built in 1959, located at the northern foot of Yunlong Mountains, experiencing 3 expansions, this museum consists of the main building, tomb of King Pengcheng of the Eastern Han Dynasty(25-220 AD), site of stone pit of the Han Dynasty(202 BC-220 AD), temporary palace of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1616-1912 AD), storing 2,000-year-old jade dress of King Chu, “China’s first coffin” jade inlaid lacquer coffin, seal of Liu Zhu, the 6th generation of King Xiang of Chu State. Next, cyclists will arrive in Jinan, known as “a city surrounded by lotus and willow, dotted with mountains and lakes” and spring city. The TV play My Fair Princess launched in 1997 will be replayed almost every year, making visitors recall the characters such as Emperor Qianlong and his sweetheart Xia Yuhe on the bank of Daming Lake. The history and culture here enrich spiritual needs; the seventy-two springs in Ji’nan are pleasing to the eyes; Dezhou Braised Chicken satisfies the tongues. As the classic dish of Shandong Cuisine, Dezhou Braised Chicken was in the list of Tributes from Shandong early in the period of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty (1616-1912 AD) and were offered to the emperor, the imperial harem and the imperial lineage. Its cooking method is rated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Even writing this makes me hungry! After enjoying Dezhou Braised Chicken, we will visit the domestic sales headquarter of Merida where we can see how bicycles are produced, which is a rare opportunity for cyclists. Moving forward, we will get to the hometown of acrobatics—Wuqiao. Wuqiao Acrobatics is a perfect reflection of ancient Chinese folk art and extensive, profound acrobatics culture. “Everyone in Wuqiao can do acrobatics, from elders to kids that can barely walk.” Cyclists can enjoy the essence of unique folk art acrobatics. With museums, Spouting Spring (a famous spring in Ji’nan City), Dezhou Braised Chicken, the plant of Merida, folk art acrobatics, this journey is fulfilled. When cyclists get to Beijing, their last important greeter is Li Zicheng (1606-1645 AD) who is also called “Chuangwang” in Chinese, a great leader of the peasant army. Located at the roundabout of the west of Changping County, facing Beijing, the statue of Li Zicheng is all mighty! Li Zicheng flourished the whip to urge on his horse in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) while cyclists today cycle and gather together in Beijing. Yanqing, China’s No. Cycling County is 48 kilometers away from the statue of Li Zicheng. Beijing International Cycle Expo 2015 and the 4th Beijing Cycling Festival will be held in Yanqing in June 26-28, 2015.
