Does anyone else here have insomnia?

I have trouble sleeping virtually every night... It can be a problem on the nights before I have to work, but the rest of the time, I'm kind of thankful for it.... because it gives me time to think..... Does anyone else have trouble getting to sleep at night.... and staying asleep? Do you have to take medication for it? I'm actually prescribed to take medication for it.... but since it can make you sleep for up to 12 hours.... and I have a little one at home.... I actually have the medication at home but have never taken it!!! It is really difficult for me to relax long enough to go to sleep.... possibly because I'm bipolar & have racing thoughts at night.... I just wondered what other people do to get to sleep at night.... especially if they have a history of insomnia.... How did they resolve this problem?

I think your sleep has direct connection with amount of physical work you do during the day and how much time do you spend lying/napping/sleeping during the day. If you do not sleep at all during day time and get up early .....say at 5.30 a.m., then your body will go to sleep at night. However, if you get up late, then you may have problems during night. Alternatively, you could study a book or could study an article or news item on your smartphone (if you use it). Else, you could listen to some light music through your headphone/smartphone and this will help you sleep. All the best.

Thanks for your kind words. Part of my problem might be that my work schedule fluctuates, as do the hours I sleep at night... Plus, I have small child at home... Lol... And then, there's all the caffeine I drink to stay awake during the day.... Lol... But reading and listening music are good ideas... and actually, listening to music does help me sleep, while reading inspires me to think and keeps me awake... which would be something great for me to do more of during the day... So thanks for your insight! :)

@tabathaseven - I am glad to hear that you analysed your actual situation with the suggestions given by me. I can understand that little baby at home and flexible time of your work, do affect your sleeping schedule. You could reduce the intake of caffeine and instead could try deep breathing technique when you want yourself to remain awake.

@dpk262006 That's great advice! Thank you. :) I'm not sure why it helps me, but if I listen to fast-paced dance music ~ like Selena Gomez or Dev ~ I usually go to sleep a lot faster.... but my daughter complains if I try to listen to music before she goes to sleep.... Some people have told me to read, but reading heightens my senses and peps me up, gives me energy, and makes me want to stay awake... :) Thanks for the advice. :)
