On a comet approaching and climate change.

I was tagged on facebook about a comet approaching and surely hitting our Planet Earth, somewhere near Brazil and Venezuela, and, according to the doom scenario, this happens in September, which is roughly two months from now, Further googling tells that the comet is 2.5 wide, and might shatter when it enters the earth's atmosphere, yet still creating an impact that could cause deathly tsunamis. All the missile tests that have been conducted in the recent months by various countries are all practices to somehow tear the comet and lessen the impact. Furthermore, the world leaders actually have given hints about this catastrophic event by rendering remarks on climate change. But of course I am not afraid of Armageddon. It was written in the Good Book, and so we must have prepared by now. What I am concerned about is the disturbing climate change that is wreaking havoc everywhere. Right now, the two typhoons that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility have brought damage to lives and properties. I would not want to leave a dire world to my children and would be grandchildren, would I? Here's a warning from America, which still is, the leader of the world's nations, about climate change. Take heed, It might save our lives.

Hi! Amateur astronomer chiming in here. I have been seeing this pop up in my facebook feed from time to time. It's nonsense. There are never links to any credible scientific sources. there is no comet coming anywhere near us. Any comet close enough to hit us in September would already be making a pretty good display in the night (and day) sky.

Thank you, mincap, that is comforting to know. The universe is so great that I keep looking up, day or night. I love the heavens, The beautiful shows are so breathtaking. I wondered, too, when I was a child, and did open pages of atlases. Would have loved to be an astronomer, but I do not have the grey cells to pursue the field. Memory not so good. Sigh. Keep your passion and reach out for the stars. Will say a prayer for you every time I look up.

@eileenleyva Yes, he's right. It is nonsense. I indulge in astronomy too. You don't need a ton of gray matter or a fancy degree to do astronomy. Just a lot of curiosity :) There are a ton of good resources out there to study that make it pretty easy to understand.

There are always doomsday scaremongers predicting Hollywood disaster movie scenarios like this. They'll feel pretty embarrassed in October when the World is still here.

Let them deal with it Im sure the world isn't a shortage with nuclear missiles to put these rocks to change course or have it obliterated. I've read and watch a few close encounter meteors and asteroids lately and panicking won't be much help to the rest of us.
