DIRECT DEMOCRACY is the only way to change things!!!

There is absolutely zero doubt, that people are sick to death with politicians. Lawyers are regarded with very low opinions. And amazingly enough, politicians are regarded even lower. Many people think, erroneously that by simply electing people a certain way, everything will will be sweet smelling roses and blue sky. It won't. First off, 1 person cannot change the structure of bribery and corruption to honesty and transparency. Can't happen. That's why Obama couldn't change Washington, and why no successive president will be able to change it either. Secondly, the culture of corrupt politics has so altered the state of politics, that no politician ANYWHERE will even try. I live in Canada and have begun the uphill climb to achieve DIRECT DEMOCRACY. The only place it exists as a form of governance is Switzerland. And, THE POLITICIANS HATE, DESPISE AND REVILE DIRECT DEMOCRACY. But, the people love it. Why? Because they can TELL the politicians they elect as a normal course of things, what they am and am not going to do. The common people, can force a vote, which is binding on the POLITICIANS, to undo a piece of legislation they passed, or force a vote, again binding on the politicians, to enact something that the politicians would not. They are in short, PUBLIC SERVANTS. Has a nice ring doesn't it?

I agree absolutely, politicians abhor me and lawyers stink even more because they have no moral shame.......... sometimes I wonder why the temple of justice is still in their hands!

Interesting thought. Not many are proactive though to be able to take this path. I have always believed in the power of an individual provided ofcourse he/she exerts but sadly not many are seen who will bend backwards to achieve something for the good of 'people'.

What an unusual idea that public officials should be public servants, but how do we get there?

One person at a time, five people per day, with everyone doing it. Not everyone will play which is why I chose five as the number to talk to. Two by two will grow exponentially. Three will be better.

Now this is a great post. I like this one very much. You hit the nail right on the head. The government here is totally corrupt. And although I like Obama, you're right, he nor any president cannot change a thing.

Direct Democracy = mob rule. A tyranny of the majority.

If not majority rule, what then? Do you not agree that politicians need to be restrained? How can you do that without some mechanism for accomplishing it?
