Ouch, my thumb!

So, I had my thumb operated on Friday. I was having trigger finger with it. I had my left thumb operated on in February of last year and the right thumb got a steroid shot last summer. I normally have my keyboard tray under my desk, but with my thumb like it is, I can't do it. Heck, I've even had to look at my keyboard some because I'm having trouble getting my fingers in the right place.
However, today I took the big bandage off and washed it before putting a large band aid on it. Still pretty sore and doesn't like to be stretched, but I can also bend and flex it without pain.
So, if you think I've been responding a little less, well, I think I have because its a pain to drag the keyboard tray out to actually type.
Next appointment I think is this coming Friday or is it Monday... Have to figure it out...

I'm going to keep an eye on this discussion because I'm facing the same surgery. My right thumb is almost completely useless at this point. Steroid injections only last for awhile and I've had a few already. Time to do something permanent.
I hope you heal well with no complications and can get back to typing without having to look at the keyboard.

Don't worry, we'll understand if certain letters don't show up due to thumb pain related problems.

Are they going to give you exercises or therapy? I had a cousin who had to have surgery on his index finger, and he said he was given exercises to do, and that he felt really weird to be doing them. The thumb is way more important though.

The nurse said I had good movement already and didn't need therapy. It is starting to feel better most of the time now - but if I run something along the scar, it feels like its been cut open again. It happened on Friday and again today. Friday was a lot worse, but there is nothing to see, no damage.

Apparently PT will not help with the trigger finger/thumb because it is over use, and probably my own problems with inflammation, that caused it in the first place. Like carpel tunnel, you need to open up the tendon space so you can use your digit again without pain.

@allknowing - I know about PT, I've had a LOT of it. However, if you research trigger finger, you will not see any PT recommended for it. I had already had a steroid shot last year, so that was the "conservative" method of treatment. I am looking at another surgery in September on my left ring finger and probably a few more fingers down the road.

@ElicBxn What physio does is it reverses the over use. Once you keep your pain under check physio could be resorted to. Just a suggestion.

I imagine it will take a while to fully function without pain. We will be patient. You just get better.

I took off the big bandage earlier today and gave my hand a lovely wash. Then I put on one of those "extra large" bandages that completely covers the stitches. I'll take it off again tomorrow for another wash up... or maybe I'll leave the bandage on until after I wash my hair and self so I don't get hair caught in the stitches...
