Can't Sleep

My alarm will be going off in 5 hours and I find myself wide awake. It is my own fault I guess - I took a 4 hour nap this afternoon. Tomorrow will not be fun going on 5 or less hours of sleep but I'm not sure what to do. I've tried watching TV, I've tried listening to relaxing music or sounds, I've tried laying here in complete silence...nothing has worked. What do you do when you can't sleep?

I am not a good sleeper so when I wake during the night I simply turn the tv on and watch a program or two and sleep when I can. Guess I am old I don't need that much sleep. Hot milk, herb tea, hot shower simply don't work so I just watch tv till I fall asleep. Happy sleeping.

Apparently my mom can't sleep either (living with her right now). I went to go get some sleeping medicine and she started screaming at me...so seems she is still awake as well.

@Lolaze I find I get stressed quite often and so as soon as I wake up I put the tv on and it takes my mind off my stress concentrating on the news of the world or a tv series. Every day is different.

I find I tend to overthink things, which at night time thats when I think about things while I'm trying to go to sleep. It goes in spurts for me, some nights I have no issues falling asleep, where others it takes me hours of just laying there.

It seems I do not have any smooth tricks any more. Years ago I would put the weather channel on television and sit in a recliner in the next room, being bored to pieces.

i pull up pandora radio on my kindle/phone/laptop whatever and pull up a comedy station.... if i can lay there listening to funny jokes i stop thinking about the stresses in my life....so i fall asleep easier... apparently the sound of laughter and people having fun/enjoying themselves relaxes me... it might not be a "relaxing" sound many suggest......but my brain is usually pretty active...so something like a comedy routine, even though it engages my mind....still gets relaxed by the silly-ness/positiveness of what i am listening to...

Don't know why, but talking to myself can put me to sleep. Not sure what it is about talking to myself but it works. If that doesn't work I watch something boring on TV or turn on some rain sounds.
