This weekend is the year anniversary of Mike Brown being shot to death by Officer Darren Wilson. I was on the ground in the aftermath of it, when the riots and protests took place, as I live just 6 miles from the site of the shooting. I'm not going to lie - I'm very worried about what is going to happen this weekend. Saint Louis is a very divided and hurt city. There are wounds here that go back to long before what happened to Mike Brown, back long before many of us who protested were even born. I'm praying whatever takes place this weekend, that it takes place in peace.

Hi Lola,
Great post. I am an avid news junkie, so I've also been following a lot of the recent cases of police brutality. I understand that there have been a lot of racial issues in the Ferguson/St Louis area, and they have been going on for a very long time. It saddens me greatly that the human race finds it necessary to divide itself based on trivial details such as race, gender, religion, etc. I saw a lot of footage of the riots that happened there.. honestly it's sometimes hard for me to believe that something that crazy could happen here, in America - it looked like a warzone from a foreign country.. something you'd expect to see in Iraq or Syria.
I'm curious though, what is so special about this weekend? I haven't really heard anything about it. Last time there was a lot of news saying that there may be riots after the Darren Wilson trial.
