My depression was really bipolar disorder

I was first diagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was 14 years old. Over the next 2 years I was on over a dozen different medications. The doctors and my parents couldn't figure out why nothing worked. In fact, most of the medications just made me worse. As an adult, I've found out the problem is that I have bipolar disorder, not depression. Antidepressants alone can't help my moods - they actually only make things worse because I get hyperactive and irritable if I am not on a mood stabilizer as well.
Today, I take four medications to control bipolar disorder, anxiety, and PTSD. One of the four medications is taken specifically because I now experience hallucinations as part of my bipolar and anxiety which is just tons of fun (dripping with sarcasm there). This just goes to show you how important proper diagnosis is to treatment!

I also suffer from bi-polar disorder. Mine is rapid cycling bi-polar disorder, which is even more challenging. I love the manic phases, though. The depression part is really hard. I recently wrote a poem during one of my deep depression cycles. I usually don't do stuff like that while I'm depressed but the words just flowed and I wanted to share my experience so that other bi's could relate. I also have Cerebral Atrophy, which is shrinking of my brain. I was orginally diagnosed with Early Onset Azheimers. I wrote about my feelings about this in my blog @
floridapoolbum@blogspot.com it's called "My Life in the Spin Cycle"-an accurate name, don't you think?
