Is Anyone Participating in Old Discussions to Bring Them Back to Life?

I found myself doing that quite by accident a few minutes ago. I think I saw a comment in someone's feed and didn't notice the date when I replied. What do you think about resurrecting old discussions from two years ago if the topics are still valid?

I think it is fine as long as the topic is appropriate, unless it was started by someone who was kicked off the site for breaking rules or whatever. Speaking of which, I was so glad to hear that this site is back that I jumped right in without reading the rules...I'd better go do that now!

I have noticed that several responses and discussions from banned members have been removed. Some were good discussions (like the discussions of Stine and Mike who joined several times here), and when they commented after a response, it is weird to be able to read the comment of the comment and not the original comment.

Glad to see you did jump back in. Welcome back. In case you didn't find them, the help files are in the upper left corner beside your avatar.

I mostly leave old discussions alone - especially if the original poster does not sound familiar (I don't know if they are around to even read any responses!). For whatever reason, I'm just hitting up the new ones for now - keep things on the new slate!

@porwest I don't know if they actually "avoid" them or they just don't want to take the time to find any I actually deleted nearly all of my older posts for personal reasons. I figured no one would miss them anyway . . . but I really should post new ones more often.

A LOT of people, in fact, I'd say MOST people avoid older discussions. I wish more people would take the time to scroll down a bit. But it is what it is. I tend to think it helps myLot as well because otherwise these older posts just sit on the server collecting dust not earning for anyone, including the site.

I'd love to do that! Some of my discussions from back in the day were pretty good! lol But actually I think I'll just let sleeping dogs lie. It will encourage me to be more creative in future discussions...

I just posted one as I know there will be several here who would not have read our old posts.

@allknowing But the old ones are already posted from before myLot came back in this form. You would have to respond to a comment, I think, to bring it back.

The person who posted the comment was still around, but the person who posted the post did not appear to be. It's amazing how many have not come back yet, unless they had closed their old accounts and have opened new ones under different names.

Even if the original poster is no longer around, the post could still receive interest from others and burst back to life. After all, any member is allowed to respond to your comments and not just the person who began the discussion.

This is something that I did often in the old days, although had not thought about it since my recent return. Of course you are quite right, providing that the topic is still valid then it should be worth commenting on.
In many cases the original poster may not be here any more, but other members can still participate and regenerate the interest.

I think that can happen, but I think it works better if the original poster is still around or has returned.

I think I saw the same. Some information is always essential. So glad to see so many old friends.

I did the same the very first time I logged back in. I thought it was a new post from one of my friends. Then reading through it again, it was dated August 2013! LOL

Perhaps it was the August date that threw us off.

All the time. Sometimes it doesn't really bring them back to life in the sense that more people other than the person I am responding to finds them. But it's still a fun thing to do and I am always digging around older discussions. It's part of what I do around here and I think most people are very aware I do it.
