No - not me - you all know that I am older. It is Jamaica - 53 years old today and today in Independence Day. A public holiday and all over the Island there will be community events and this afternoon a Grand Gala at the National Stadium.
Many will say not much progress, but a former Colony will experience much dislocation in trying to find its niche in the world.
I am going to be with you on and off today and watch the Gala on television. Have to take it a bit easy today as my bp is out of whack, but my second son is now living with me and he has volunteered to cook us a real Jamaican breakfast - ackee and salt fish plus roasted breadfruit.
I've come a long way from eggs, bacon and sausages - a full British breakfast.! lol Occasionally, I do cook a full British as it is wonderful!
So as my father would always say every morning to me, "Good morning, how are you? God bless you'.

I was living in Jamaica in 1972 and attended quite a few 10 year celebrations of it's independence. I have never partied anywhere else in the world like I did in Jamaica! Happy Birthday!

@cynthiann I loved Jamaica. We had a house in Discovery Bay that belonged to a relative of Charles Darwin.........it was a magical time in my life.

It is such a small Island but full of mountains and valleys that I have never experienced Island fever. Takes so long to get anywhere! I am happy here!

Many thanks - I was wondering if to post on the salt fish as the origin of it being a national dish is really special.

Singapore is more developed but then it was under a somewhat repressive regime. I do hope that I have not offended you by my personal opinion.

@hereandthere Glad that I did not offend you as I prefer to live in a democracy - however imperfect it may be,

Actually I didn't know you were much older. LOL. Happy Independence Day to Jamaicans, Jamamericans (those of Jamaican descent, born in and living in America) and all those celebrating. I love independence day celebrations no matter which country.
