Do you like having things you feel might be a bad habit validated as good for you?

I love it when I read something that supports my doing something I have been told isn't good for me. Take for instance the article I just read about the health benefits of chocolate. It says: "cacao beans, which are rich in chemicals with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-clotting properties." With a arthritic knee that has inflammatory issues I love this. Also this is very important to note: "Although cacao and cocoa are used interchangeably, cacao refers to the tree, pods and beans inside. Cocoa is the two manufactured products of those beans: cocoa powder and cocoa butter (a chocolate bar’s top ingredients). Cocoa also refers to the chocolate drink." So important! Ofcourse overdoing it and eating too much isn't good for anyone. Dark chocolate is best because it has more flavonols in it. I don't really care for the dark but will blend it with the other. And I like the upper level chocolate with liquer and such specialty ingredients added. Not the normal cancy bars like Kit Kat or Mars. Oh-oh. It says at the bottom that over indulging cancels out the usefulness because of sugar and calories. Do you find this to be true of you also? Do you like chocolate?

I'm not really a chocolate fan and when I do indulge it's dark chocolate. Though I adore Hot Chocolate drinks of any kind! As for articles that swing back and forth between this or that being good or bad for you, I read but pretty much ignore. I have always followed the Canada Food Guide which we were taught in Grade 2 and it has never let me down.

Ooh really? I like Mocha Lattes. I don't recall saying anything about 'swinging back and forth'. More or less what I was saying was this: 'Don't you love it when things go your way?'.

@celticeagle I love Mocha anything! lol And by swinging back and forth, I meant that one day I'll read an article that something is bad for you and a few months later someone else writes an article saying the same thing is good for you.........so who to believe? That's why I only trust my handy dandy common sense and the Canada Food Guide! lol

@sparkofinsanity I so agree with you. But, as I said to LMBs- I think if we read sog we question the validity of we should check who wrote it? Was it an expert in the field or some journalist trying to make a name for themselves?

Supposedly as Sparks mentioned-everything is eventually found out to be "bad" for us. When I was young they said milk is so good for you, then at some point I heard whole milk is bad for us. Eggs were once good for us, then not so much anymore. I have heard that about chocolate being bad-now it's good for us again. I have heard fish oil vitamins were supposedly so healthy-then one day they weren't good for us at all. I cannot keep up with it all so I eat and drink what I enjoy! I do enjoy some chocolate.

I so agree. Even water. I drink regular milk regardless. I always check to see who wrote the piece that has conflicting info and then I either agree because it is an expert or I don't because it is some journalist trying to make a name for themselves. In other words, I don't believe EVERYTHING I read. Eating what you enjoy is so smart. Why worry about it all? And one thing I think I is important too is to do things in moderation.
