Do you stick to a budget?

I tend to the most part stick to a budget, I don't have much extra money a month. I do spend more than I should. I could cut this back, but most of it is from gas for the car.
I am lucky enough to be able to budget putting at least $300 a month away which is nice.
I have been buyiong tickets to things I have been wanting to do, but otherwise staying within my budget. I was just doing up the budget tonight, and was thinking of a friend who literally spent all her money, and never paid a bill. I could never do this myself, and panic when I forget to pay a bill or can't pay it in full.

When my hubs and I got married in 2005 he handed me his debit card and said......keep the bills paid and I'll work my butt off.
So yes, we live with a budget and have been so successful at it that we own our home mortgage free as well as a few other properties, have supported members of our extensive family from time to time, taken trips and enjoyed the fruits of our hard work.
But now my husband is near retirement age and things have changed. Work is slow in his field and this past year has seen a major drop in my ability to make our budget cover all our costs. Frankly, I am no longer sleeping at night for the worry of what another tough winter is going to do to our financial stability......
