My Love letters

Over two years ago I wrote a post on myLot wondering what to do with my husband's love letters to me before and after we were married. The earliest was 1967 complete with envelope and stamp. Well, I decided last year to have one framed and gave it to my daughter to choose the frame she wanted as it would be a Christmas gift to her.So she took the letter back to the city to a particular shop we like. Later, she gleefully phoned and related what had happened when she took the letter to the framing shop. first, people were surprised to see a letter as not many people write letters these days and in the end she was coerced into reading it aloud. She said that although people cracked up laughing they were also touched and then the women became sentimental and thought it was wonderful to have it framed. So now it is on a wall in her apartment and is definitely a conversation piece as it attracts her friends to read it. Who would have thought that a love letter from her father to me would now attract so much attention?

That's pretty special. Some years ago, R took an old doll that was my mother's and had her and her outfits framed for me (the glove doesn't belong, lol).

I like the fact that future generations will wonder about it and hear the story. That was a n ice gesture on R's part to do that though!

What a great story! The art of letter writing certainly has disappeared. I think a hand written letter means more than something typed on a computer.

Actually, I keep a stock of cards that I send with a thank-you note and it is so appreciated as people do not do this anymore

that is really wonderful. it is sad that people do not give letters nowadays because it is so much easier to send messages or emails. My mom kept all of her love letters in an album, it is so much fun reading them

It was a different age and oh, the excitement of waiting for the postman to deliver the letters- and the disappointment if no letter came!

It's so nice of your daughter to have it framed and be seen by friends . But i think , my husband wouldn't want his love letters to me displayed like that though .

Those love letters are tributes to how affectionate you were once towards each other .They are worth getting framed and keeping as precious mementos .Small wonder the women were visibly moved then.

@cynthiann Yes, I can't imagine such memories. I never got a love letter, but I did get little writings like when he gave me flowers or a greeting card, but letters are much more.

Good question. I am not sure but I will ask them. My DIL loves it so maybe they would. You are so astute GG - really sensitive. Thank you for bringing this point up!

What a beautiful touching thing to do for you both...Something to pass on for future generations.. I made something similar for my children last year and now making for my Grands.. I have all these letters, photographs and first items of my children school art plus things their grandparents made when they were born..i decided to make memory books starting as far back in relatives pictures and naming them, telling my memories of them in notepaper all under plastic. Then i made their art work and items of clothing in memory boxes under glass..treasures they can too pass on.

That is a wonderful idea! Wheat I am doing is taking some photographs and having them copied so that all the children get one each. It gives them a sense of identity. I also have photographs of my relatives in the late 1800's. My children are bi-racial and so was their father. My grands are all shades and I hope that it will give them a sense of who they are.

Long time no see you, my friend! As soon as I saw you in this new version of Mylot, I ran to read your posts. I started with this one and loved it. My husband was no letter writter but he did do it on special occations and I cherish what he wrote. I tell my grandchildren about my love story as half of them did not get to know their grapa.

What a way to treasure a memory. Not surprising that it has become a 'conversation piece' - not many get such creative ideas.

Oh, whatever happened to old fashioned love, I am so happy for you where you are loved so much and wonderfully by your husband. Though the time was short but the memories never ceased with time. This is indeed the most genuine and loving Christmas gift I've ever come across.

They both love it and it is a memory on display! I am glad that she has it and it makes her happy - and makes me happy too as by just looking at it I can conjure up so many memories.
