I was inspired to write this post after reading Spark's post - Facing my Mortality. I will not want my mind to age the way my body does. Although there may be disadvantages with this thinking. What about you?
This morning I received a visit from my neighbour whom I never thought to see again as she has been receiving treatment for spinal cancer. She is between...

Wish I could stay young, in body and in mind (whew). I also believe that, being happy keeps our body healthy and young.

I would not like my min d to keep company with my body though I would be cautious in attempting anything foolhardy. After all, one has to give due respect to advancing years isn’t it [be it for others or self.]

@allknowing You are right allknowing! I , have a sweet tooth and though my father was a diabetic , just do have the occasional binge by way of ice cream or chocolate. However, since i have always been conscious of the quantity I am alright for e.g. won't take more than two small pieces of chocolate at a time .But fat does get accumulated and ti is seen on my calves.Need to exercise properly but I plead guilty!

Many a time and often if I may say so, our mind is not ready to accept it. See our food habits. We will still want to eat stuff that we really should not be eating. Then there are other activities that need to be restricted. But one can always make efforts for the mind to work in tandem with the body.

If possible both should be kept well oiled and fit...We may say we are mentally young etc etc but our minds mature and it is simply not possible to have the same attitude and outlook that you had two decades ago because you have had so much more happening with your life and you have hopefully become wiser with age ...But, one can stay with the times by keeping oneself well informed, active,,,

I remember an incident when an aged friend I know had hip surgery and she was advised caution. And yet she danced at a wedding. She developed complications. My dear friend is no more. Here her mind had not aged.

@allknowing thats sad, I guess we need to know our limitations ...I see all the botox cases gone wrong and wonder, exactly what have they achieved ? they know their age and everybody else around know their age , so what does it matter if there are a few wrinkles and lines on your face to show that you have become older and wiser..Once you accept the reality you are much happier and are able to keep fit both physically and mentally with ease !

@kiran8 Aging with dignity is what it is called. I even think of dentures. Dentures do nothing but inconvenience the wearer. Is there need to chew bones or bite them any more (lol)

@allknowing Yes and no, both!! Actually to be honest I don't know my answer. If I say yes, I know I would become inactive mentally, which I do not want and if I say no, I think my mind would want to do things that my body won't be able to do and so I'll get depressed. Why do you say yes? And what do you think the disadvantages will be?

@phoonk LOL Actually I just wish my mind was always as mature as my body so I wouldn't get into so much trouble!

You do not have to think and act like an old person even if you are. My uncle is 92 he thinks and speak with vitality. It is such a joy to talk to him.. but most people seem to give up mentally before their bodies do.

When you face it.....you have other thoughts....as now, luck is with me......but I do think this over TOO often, and the answer is Never there.....when I see so much deterioration of both...I have promised myself, I will not be a burden!

@SIMPLYD The problem is when the mind if used to make the body do what it cannot do

It is very difficult for the mind to work in tandem with what the body tells us

@allknowing The body ages fast . But as to our mind , it can remain young as long as we want to.

Me too... I wont wish for my mind ageing in tandem with my body.. My body is ageing and it needs a strong ally to keep on.. and dat ally has to be my mind. But, to make our wish hold true, we must "condition" and "service" our mind to be in "shape"

If there was a best answer tag I would tag this . Conditioning our mind to work in tandem with our body is what is necessary. That is called art of living. But it is easier said than done. A lot of conditioning, as you said, is required.
