What is the opposite of love? Is it hate? I don't think so. Hate is just as passionate as love . I believe it is indifference. That is the complete opposite of both love and hate. Not caring either way cancels out the passion of love and hate. your thoughts.

Indifference is the right choice. I have always been saying this. Hate requires involvement.

@thesids Helping others is compassion, a good feeling so it can't be indifference. Indifference would be just walking by if a stranger in danger. I think anything that requires feelings can't be the opposite of love.

@thesids Indifference is when the situation calls for all these 3 emotions. When it comes to a stranger as you know it is different

Love this. Yes, it has to be indifference. But then, I think it is upto a point.
Consider this -
You see a stranger meeting with an accident on the road. You go and help him/her to stand up, clear the dirt off and even ask if all is okay. This is not out of love or hate. And also it doesnt seem to go with indifference... Or does it fall into something else altogether ? Human Nature? or maybe... Courtesy or even Helping some one or anything else?

Hellooooo Behen
I had sent you numerous requests and messages on facebook but it never reached you. Doesnt matter now.as I have found you here again
In my opinion, love has no opposite. It is just that you either love someone/something or you dont. Not loving someone/something never means that you hate the one/thing. It also does never mean that you dislike the one/thing.

Bhai! I'm crying tears of joy. I thought you were gone forever! I sent you a private message here!
I disagree, love has an opposite. And it isn't a good feeling either way. I'm glad to have my Bhai back!

I've heard that the opposite of love is indifference. That's why Christians hate all other churches so much ... because they feel like those other religionists are cheating on G-d---the same way you might feel if a lover tricked you into marrying him and then wouldn't agree to end it.

Wow! cheating on G-d? You can't cheat on G-d. Either you have a path to Him or you don't. No path to G-d is wrong!
No man will trick me into marriage. He wouldn't survive!

@sarahruthbeth22 You remember when Ross & Rachel went to Vegas on F*R*I*E*N*D*S? 'Lovership' puts you in those kinds of situations
And Yes you can cheat on G-d! The Hebrews did it after G-d saved them from slavery---devoting their love to the Golden Idol instead of G-d `erSelf!

No it isn't that simple. There are many people whom I don't love and yet I don't hate them either. It isn't black or white. But having no feeling at all seems like the opposite of love, the one emotion that requires deep feelings!

I am getting to like your responses and discussions for sure.
You and I never met. So logically, you cannot love me. But does that mean you dislike me? I guess not. Maybe indifference. But why would you dislike anyone whom your never met or knew all your life ? Somehow, I dont see any justification to that.

@thesids I think you can love someone only when you know that person and similarly you can dislike someone only when you know that person. So, I think dislike goes as opposite for love. I may be wrong though. To love and to dislike you should definitely know the other person.
