At Such an Age

I remember when my mother's mother was my age. She had thin, tightly permed hair, and wrinkles. She would say every morning, "I may hurt, but at least I don't have arthritis." but she did.
I am sure she walked miles daily, and she never drove. She worked hard, my aunt always said she was lazy.
That was the year my mom started saying "I want to spend the holiday with my parents, it may be the last one they are alive."
My grandmother lived another thirty eight years.
I am older, I am not old. I hope I am as versatile and active as my grandmother was at such an age.

I always say this about my grandmother as well. She walked miles every day at 86 years old. She just went in for hip surgery at 88 years old but she is one stubborn woman-she is tough and I don't think anything can hold her down for long.

My Gran lived to a ripe old age. It runs in the family on my mother's side. My mother is now in her 90's and finally suffering from dementia. We live so far apart that I am afraid she will pass on before I see her again. That happened with my father a few years ago and it nearly broke me........

My husband's dad was ill with colon cancer and no one told hubby until the very last. He missed seeing him by about four hours. At sixty nine hubby has already out lived his dad and his dad's dad.

Your grandmother is really a good example for people of my age. It is said you are as old as you think of yourself. Positive attitude and activities do exert positive effect on our mind and body. Thanks for your sharing.

It seems I go in cycles of feeling old and not so old. I believe I am going back to being younger and healthier.

Maybe 42. I think we are only as old as we act and think.

I have had some bad years, but now I am on my way up again. I fully expect to live a long life, in a healthy way.

@GardenGerty I received some bad news at my doctor's appointment yesterday. I am still kind of in shock, but I hope that I will get back to an even keel.

I have always felt that we do not have the health that the older generations enjoyed.

You are probably correct. I know they ate fresher foods and worked much harder.

You already eat healthy and that is a great start. If I remember correctly you also try to walk as much as possible, even if it is only around walmart several times. The foods that they have now are all so processed and that, I believe, is what is killing us slowly.
I am trying to eat healthier myself. I've lost a few lbs. and I generally feel better. If only I could make myself walk more.

Your job requires a lot of physical activity and that is really good for you. While my sister lived with me for various reasons I became too sedentary. Things are looking up.

My grandmother lived to be 100 years old and was pretty active into her nineties.
