My Commute

Commute

It's only a 10-minute commute to work each way for me every day. Not too bad at all. I really have nothing to complain about it, especially that I know many have to endure a lot worse drive regularly. You see, I'm fortunate to not have an office downtown or where the CBD (Central Business District) is. Those cars stuck in traffic on my image are heading that way. I get to pass those other cars while driving on my empty lane that is taking me to the exit near my work. The worst thing for me is probably just how the bright sun would shine directly on my face blinding my view. But I could take care of that with my sun visor and cool glasses to reduce the glare.

You're fortunate! 10 minutes is a snap! Hubby's commute is about 45 minutes - but at least the traffic is not too bad (considering it is bad only if he leaves the house after 7am) and the drive is peaceful.

@sishy7 Yep, the freeways out here just get worse - more and more jam packed each year. My sister and her husband take the train to work too (they are in Monrovia), but where they are situated, the trains are convenient. Out here, it just seems like a hassle - we're too used to driving our own cars.

According to my sister LA freeways are getting worse than when I was commuting on them. Her husband prefers to take the train to his work downtown now.

My son and grandson commute and they are away about 12 hours to work 8 hours. I don't think I could do that.

Driving East into the sun is a little bit of a hardship. As you say, visors or sunglasses help. Adjusting your time a little can sometimes help as well. Leave a little earlier or later.

You're right! And for some reasons the sun here seems a lot more brighter than every where else I've been - or is it just because I'm getting older?

@sishy7 It may be that there are fewer trees providing shade beside the road.

@GardenGerty Our trees are all cut back from the road here.

I've got you beat. I don't commute to work at all! But then again, I'm a stay-at-home mom.

Yes, it's nice that you probably have the flexibility to plan your driving during non rush hours.

You somehow managed to find out something that is not nice with your ten minute drive - the sun's glare. What is this world coming to I say?

I don't have to worry about a commute now because I am retired! I remember you from Bubblews. Are you still active there? I won't write on Bubblews again until they give me the $300 in unpaid redemptions.

@sishy7 Do you still see bubblews? I got the message on screen that they had closed down a long time ago.

I hate driving directly into the sun, sometimes you cannot adjust the sun visor just right to keep it out of your eyes. I do hate heavy traffic.

Yes, the bright sun light would hinder my driving visibility too... I don't feel 100% confident driving directly into it...

@sishy7 Not much you can do about that, although I saw a woman today trying to afix what looked like a shirt to her visor.
