I recently started working third shift. I'm having a hard time sleeping during the day! I only sleep an hour or two at a time, usually only getting three to five or so hours of sleep. My job is hard anI'm worn out before my shift is over, yet still can't sleep!
I have the A/C on, my windows are blocked so it's dark in my room. I can't take sleeping pills. Any other ideas on how to get better sleep?

I remember my sister's husband was on shifts in that they did not see each other for a full month when he was on night shifts. She would go to work and when she returned he would not be there!

That would be awful! I would hate that. I did have a first shift job and I would pick him up from work, he'd drop me of at my job. We'd get about 30 minutes together. Then he'd go home n sleep until I got off n come pick me up. He'd go back to bed until time for him to go to work n I've take him n drop him off. We got maybe 2 hours together each day!

I've struggled with this a lot, the only thing that works for me is to not work third shifts , otherwise my whole day is messed they pay more for third shifts thought so...its a hard thing to balance. force yourself to sleep, I cant think of any way around it

Ah that is hard indeed. What I learned is you can't really sleep if your mind is so alive. Maybe you need to listen to some relaxing music and drink warm milk so it will help you sleep. Good luck!
