Fibromyalgia is a Pain

Living with fibromyalgia means knowing what unending pain and fatigue are like on a daily basis. The best comparison I can give is to imagine how you feel the day after a car accident - it hurts to move in general, some spots hurt nonstop no matter what you do. Then, add extreme fatigue on top of that. There is no cure for fibromyalgia - just medications that can manage some of the symptoms and control some of the pain. The exact cause of it is unknown.
Currently, I'm dealing with a pretty severe flare up of it after trying to stop one of the two medications I take for it. The medication was causing swelling in my body so I was weaned off of it by my doctors. Two weeks later, my legs hurt so much I could barely walk! I've now had to restart it and I guess just put up with the swelling as a side effect. It sucks, but being in agony is even worse.

I have several friends who suffer from this disease as well as my daughter. The one thing that I have learned is that it attacks everyone differently and that the medicine that works for one may not work for the next one or may even make it worse. So basically all the doctors can do is practice trial and error medicine for this disease. I hope you and your doctor finds your balance soon. No one should be in that much pain.

That is horrible.
I have a cousin that has fibro and it is pretty severe too.
My pcp thought a few months ago that I had fibromyalgia so I was sent to a rheumatologist. He believes I have AS~ankylosing spondylitis. We are still working on getting that confirmed.
Hopefully, at some point, they can find a medication that will work and NOT cause swelling

My fibro does not often get bad. Is there some dietary changes that will help take down your swelling? I will see a new doctor in September.

Last night and tonight are the first two times I've taken any of my meds since Wednesday, and I'm only taking my two liquid meds because I don't want to challenge my stomach with the others. Of course, other people can take the pill form of hydrocodone and gabapentin, but I can't. The pill forms of those meds have corn starch in them and I'm very allergic to corn protein.

@yukimori I guess ...
I don't understand (and don't want to learn) exactly what fibromyalgia is; so I only understand it to be something one does not want.
Maybe if she meditates on 'why she has it' or 'how she got it,' she can effectively 'let it pass.'

@mythociate So you're basically choosing willful ignorance, then.
To put this in perspective, asking someone why they keep fibromyalgia is like asking someone who's had a traumatic brain injury why they keep the aftereffects of the TBI.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness that causes widespread pain in the body and extreme fatigue. It's not well understood. Nobody really knows exactly what triggers it, and there's no cure at this point.
So to tell someone with fibromyalgia that meditating on why they have the syndrome or how they got it can help them let it pass... well, quite frankly that's damn offensive.
Personally, I find it right up there with the doctors who believe it's all in our heads because they can't find an obvious cause for the symptoms.

I think the thing that gets to me the most about trying to treat fibromyalgia is that everything is aimed toward alleviating the symptoms. It seems like trial and error is really the only way to go about it, since there doesn't seem to be anything that's effective for everyone across the board.
One of the things that I've found really helps my leg pain is bath salts. Village Naturals Therapy makes several different types specifically for pain relief. There's an Aches & Pains Muscle Relief with eucalyptus, spearmint, and menthol. I use that one fairly often with pretty good results. The other one I use regularly is the Aches & Pains Nighttime Relief, which has lavender, chamomile, and menthol. I've found it helps me sleep better, too.
There's another variety with juniper, orange, and menthol that's pretty good, but I haven't found it nearly as effective as the other two. They come in lotions and foaming baths, too... I just really like the salts.

@Lolaze I should have mentioned that I've found all of them at Walmart, although some stores don't carry all of the varieties. You can check their website to find out which stores stock them in your area, and a few are available for ordering online.
I've found the Muscle Relief variety at grocery stores like Safeway and Kroger, too. It's hit or miss with those stores, though. Some of them have really small bath product sections.

I feel your pain. I have fibro as well and it's been rough going the last few months. I've had to up my sleeping meds to get to sleep but they still take about 2 hours to kick in, and then I sleep so soundly (not deeply) that I don't move and wake up in so much pain because my body has not moved for hours. I still have interrupted sleep though. Hope you get your meds straightened out soon.

I am so sorry.I have fibromyalgia as well. I did very well on a gluten free diet, and I also cut down on dairy. I felt a lot better then. Unfortunately, it was inconvenient to be on a gluten free diet, and I'm not on it anymore. I hope I can get the "want to" to do it again. I hope you get to feeling better. It's annoying to have to "wait it out".

As several have already mentioned a different diet might be to your benefit. I am so sorry you are going through so much. I have a cousin and one of my friends who both have fibro. Unfortunately, they are now both addicted to pain medications and I honestly don't know which is worse for them, the fibro or the numerous pain medications they are on.

I wonder if it is related to arthritis. Since they are both painful. Maybe it is in that same family of diseases. Or conditions. My aunt has Fibromyalgia and she is always tired also. I never thought that it would be that painful. But I guess I was wrong. But the difference is, she is 91 years old. You are a young woman.

I can understand the pain you might be going through as there is a close friend (who is also a mylotter) who suffers with this ailment. I havent met her, but yes, I have been reading about it whenever she shares a link on Fb.
Have you considered finding information on natural or herbal medicines for this ailment ? I am sure you would have, but then, I would suggest not to lose hope. Hope is always what keeps people going in such cases where there are no known medical cures.
I too suffer from one such ailment, doctors have said nothing can be done at this stage of mine, but I am still hopeful that some day they will find a cure or I will find some cure. I had stopped medications once as I could not afford them on a regular basis. I fell on bed for 8 months because of that and also got hit by its sister ailments. So I would always recommend regular medical checkups and medicine intake - even if you find an alternate.
I do hope and pray that you and my dear friend do get well, at least come out of the regular painful agony. Keep hope and faith.

But I don't know whether it is a fibromyalgia .. But Physician told it is just a pain caused by severe work pressure and advice not to drive scooter .. ..
