Do you live off the land?

I have been doing my summer gardening and canning/freezing veggies for the winter ahead.
And what I am really excited about is getting chickens.
I have 10 chickens. They are laying eggs and the plan is to sell extras. When they quit laying, it's fried chicken for everyone!
I have the land for other livestock, but not ready to go that route right now.
Are you a garden person or buy it at the store person?
Why or why not?

We have a garden. Ours needs to be a lot bigger though. I do can and freeze when we have enough. I also dehydrate a few things. I quite often have to buy veggies from the local farmers market to put away. We have had chickens and ducks in the past and they are truly a pleasure to just sit and watch. The eggs are just a great bonus.
Good luck with your egg selling venture.

Its a dream of mine but right now we are still looking for the land to live off of. I want to create my own food and know where it all comes from. It is such a big job but it is one that comes with great rewards. We have eight happy hens right now I would love to get some extra space for. Its crazy how expensive dirt is huh!

@Gwensmom How fun. Land and land with family memories and meaning to it. That much be so much fun to build up something with so much history attached.

It is the other way around. The land lives off me - the trees, the greenery, the birds everything. They depend on me to keep them alive and in return they give me happiness.
Happiness is expensive I say!!

It does take time, but to me and my husband it is worth it.

@Gwensmom Yeah why not it is your own produce and therefore you are assured of purely organic and not gmos

@Mavic123456 I know! GMOs are very bad. I go as environmentally friendly as I can.

This is great to hear Ruth! I had no idea you had land and all. Did you move I think? Well anyway it is great to hear. I do not have land, I live in an apt. But it is my ultimate dream to do as you are doing.

I do a mixture of both, though I am more of a store person than live off the land. Although I have a few chickens, I couldn't imagine butchering them. I will only go so far as to eat their eggs! That's it! lol
