Turning off A/C before the engine.

Is it necessary to turn off the A/C before the engine? My mom always get mad at me when I turn off the car engine and forgot to turn off the A/C. I always ask her why do I need to do that and her answer was always like this..."it's bad for the car". At some point, I just thought that what she says was legit and she has point. Maybe, there will be a major problem if I do not follow her. I think the battery will drop down its power or the performance of the car will be affected. I don't know.

Yes I think so..I have been told by my mechanic that we should turn of the Airconditioner before switching off the engine or else when you restart it, it puts additional stress and load on your engine which in the long run is not good for the battery, its life comes down by a few months ...
