To Rest Your Head

Okay. I know the title of this post seems somewhat odd. Yes, we do sometimes need to rest our heads. But this post is about pillows. After all, that is where we rest our heads when we go to sleep. There are many different types of pillows in the world. From the fluffy and soft to the more firm ones. Some people don’t use traditional pillows at all. Like if I fall asleep on my couch, I always fall asleep with a couch pillow under my head. They are a little rough, but they are comfortable. They are also more firm than the pillows we use in our bedroom. I never used a down pillow. I find them to be way too soft and flatten way too easy. So I stay away from them. Also, if they rip, you wind up with feather all over the place.
I use foam pillows. I think they lend themselves better to sleeping. They do flatten over time, but last much longer than down pillows do. Then they have those pillows with those beads inside. Those little pellets. Now what happens if that pillow rips. Well, I think we all know what happens. We have thousands of little pellets all over the place. No, not for me. I have seen that commercial for the ‘My Pillow” I thought about getting a few. But, the price is way expensive and they look no different than regular pillows. They also have pillows made with the same memory foam some mattresses are made from. They seem good.
I have even seen ergonomic pillows as well. Ones that are supposed to contour your head and align your back in a more natural way. I know my back has not been feeling good sleeping with all the pillows I sleep with. But, I cannot lay down flat. I have a sinus condition and if I lay flat I get all stuffed up and cannot breathe right. So I need to prop my head up. I also thought about getting one of those adjustable beds. You know the ones that we can adjust. We can raise our heads or feet. But they are more expensive than those Tempur-pedic mattresses. So, that is out of the question. Also, staying cool is very important to me. Some pillows make you sweat. And that is real annoying. I hate waking up with my head all sweaty.
How do you sleep? Are you resting your head properly? Are you raising your head when sleeping? And what kind of pillow do you actually use? Regular ones, down ones? I would like to hear some interesting information about some pillows people use. And how they sleep. I am getting tired of waking up in pain. And I know the mattress has a lot to do with that, but so do pillows. I wish I had a good big computer chair with a high back and a pillow attached. That way I would be able to rest my head while online.

You've hit upon a subject very relevant to me. I love feather pillows, but I can't afford nice pillows and the last one I bought was a $2.50 pillow from Walmart. It's just not soft, it's not pliable, and I have a devil of a time to get to sleep. I want a memory foam or feather pillow.

You can't have a pillow for your computer chair, you could get a DWM (Drowsy While Mylotting)
I have an old regular pillow that is supposed to help with neck pain...It worked, but it is old and it doesn't work as well. Because of the expense, I will probably just purchase a cheaper pillow to replace it.

@inertia4 I don't think I ever fell asleep at the computer before because if I am tired, I would just sign out and go to bed. Which reminds me, MyLot has ruined my schedule. I am usually ready for bed by 9:30 and trying to go to bed earlier since school starts soon yet here I am at 10:34 and wide awake. I really should go though, we are going on another canoe trip tomorrow and I want to get my rest.

@Carmelanirel2 Well, you're lucky you haven't fell asleep at the computer. It really is a pain in the neck. Literally. Your neck gets real stiff.

The pillow dilemma is a problem. I like to have my head raised, and I like a firm pillow. I don't like the feel of sinking into a pillow because I feel like I am suffocating. I never had a down pillow. I used them at other's houses. I can't understand why anyone would want to fill the quill. Long ago, I remember a straw pillow. At least that is what my grandparents' said. I'm not sure if it was or not but that was one heck of a hard pillow.Firm is to soft of a word to describe it.

When I am pooped, I tell ya, I can sleep on a bed of rocks! I'm not too particular when it comes to pillows and mattresses - if I can find the time to get disturbance free sleep, then I am just thrilled to be able to get good rest.

@Mavic123456 Actually I could sleep next to someone or by myself. Either way is fine with me. I know that some people move around too much and that could get annoying.

Lol I really like this topic, well I sleep okay at night which I tend to toss and turn every hour of the night. My pillow is a regular pillow that has a black pillow case on it. I do rest my hand properly. I tend to put my hands under my pillow, I do not know why but it is a habit.

The pillow I use is call ed the Boomerang as it is shaped like a bommerang. I purchased it a while back at of the local retailers here. So far, it has been one of the best pillows I have used. I do need to replace my mattress, but at this time I can't afford to do so, so I just deal with it, but the pillow does help give me some support, even if the mattress doesn't. I would like to have the Sleep Number Bed, and maybe someday, I will.
