It is not easy to make others smile.

Hello everyone! In our day to day life we come across many people, friends, colleagues and neighbors etc. If I see a tensed or sad guy, I ask about his reasons of sadness and try to divert his attention from his problem and try to make him/her smile. I try to be positive so as to bring positivity in others. I do not believe in using discouraging or negative words when conversing and consoling anyone. I try to be humerous also so as to lighten the atmosphere. I believe it is not easy to make smile others, however, it is much easier to hurt anyone. There are people, who say nasty words without bothering about feelings of others. They just speak out their mind and show cold attitude. Do you try to make others smile by your efforts and try to console others, when they are in any kind of problem? Have a nice weekend to all of you.

I think when people do that they are charitable. So However, some people with various pursuits look for only positive people and that means anyone down is ignored. Also for the sake of discussion people can seem nasty but really they are debating a topic and trying to make a point. On the other hand there are some unhappy people that are just mean because they are so unhappy.

Yes, you are very right that making others feel happy or make them smile is nothing less than a charity. May be sometimes people put forth their point in a debate in such a manner that they sound very serious. We just cannot do about unhappy people, they are always unhappy, irrespective of their situation. Thanks for joining and sharing.

I try to make others smile, but I am not a people person, so when I talk to someone, I find it hard to encourage them.

I think you do your best to make others smile. It does not matter if you do not encourage them all the time. Many are self motivated and they do not need encouragement as such. Thanks for joining.

@dpk262006 yes friend it is very easy to hurt any one but very hard to make one smile . I myself try to be active and make people active and smile who are around me and i take care that i don't hurt any one in my process of doing so . I saw people who throw their words blindly without thinking of others how they might receive it .

You read my post very carefully, I am sure. Before your response, others did not make comment about the fact that how easy it is to make someone feel hurt. We need to say some nasty words and the guy in front of us starts feeling bad. It is good to hear that you make sure that you make others smile with your efforts and you restrict yourself so as not to hurt anyone. Yes, there are people, who are unmindful and use pointed words to let anyone down. Thanks for your wonderful response.

Thanks Mavic @Mavic123456 for your kindness. So your Russian co-worker is hard to please or it is difficult to make him smile. You could ask him what makes him smile? or he does not feel like smiling at all, at least at work place? If he just cannot smile on your funny jokes (I know you have great sense of humour) than only God could make him smile.

I always try to look at the positive side of things. Try to show others too, that every thing has a good and a bad side. Like opposite sides of a coin. We should focus on the good part and make it work to our advantage. That's what I tell 'em.

It is heartening to hear that you believe in looking at the positive side of things. People have tendency to look at the negative side and this makes them even more depressed. They need to understand there is always a positive side too and they should look at that. If we could turn attention of others towards brighter side of their life, I think this will make them smile. Many thanks for sharing your views.

@dpk262006 my pleasure! "Sokoler tore sokole amra, protteke amra porer tore"------It is a saying in Bengali. It means all of us are present for everyone; every one of us is there for the others.

I like to think I can put a smile on someone's face. A smile is the easy part - but to actually make them "happy" is another matter. We can give advice, say some words of encouragement, lend support or provide some comedy relief if to show we care . . . but only the owner of the emotions can take action to make themselves happy. I know even in the worst of times, I can squeak out a smile myself, but that may not represent how I feel on the whole in the inside.

Hello dear! You have a point to make. I more or less agree with you that even if we could make people smile who are around us, we are not so sure whether this makes them happy inside. About their happiness, they could only tell. We should give advice and motivate them, when we feel they need to be motivated. Our jobs ends there, it is for them to take our advice in a right spirit. If they are not reacting to our advice or in due course are not going to implement it, they better be left alone (next time). Yes, when you are not happy inside, even feigning a smile may not help much but it might make a little difference. Thanks for sharing. One of the best responses so far. Have a nice week ahead.

@much2say - Even if the little one has leukemia, the family need to keep their hope alive and should be in a positive frame of mind. Our job could be say positive words to the family. Even if we cannot make them smile, but we could at least console them and could tell them that they have to face the reality, worrying is not going to help.

@dpk262006 It's hard. I think of this family I know who found out recently that their little son had leukemia. I don't think there is anything that anyone could say that would make them "happy". They know that they have the loving support of our particular community and that might make them feel better for the moment, but that does not take away the fact that their son has leukemia.

I tend to stay away from people more than not. But is a real crisis I would be there to help someone. I learned getting involved in someone else's business is not a good thing to do. People might look sad on the outside, but are ready to bite your head off if you try to help.

Interesting response @inertia4. You are very right that getting involved in someone's business without he giving us green signal to help him could bring trouble for us. Some people just show that they are sad and once you get carried away and try to help them, they do not appreciate your efforts. Thanks for sharing.

It is correct that we cannot please everyone. However, it does not mean that we should not try to make them smile. We could make our efforts if they do not smile, it is their business. Having said that - if a person does not reciprocate, next time we will refrain from making even efforts to make him smile. It is good to hear that you love being happy and you do not care if others are not in a mood to have fun. Thanks for joining and sharing your views.

Hi Deepak, I don't go out of my way to make other people smile esp those who have been nasty to me, but for my loved ones and friends I always have a smile and an encouraging words..My own feeling is that , it is better to have someone speak their minds out rather than smile at you and then pass nasty comments behind your back ! It takes all kinds to make this world I guess
