Anybody Quit Smoking....Cold Turkey?

Hubby and I both have been smoking for almost 30 some years. I think that's long enough for torture on the ole' lungs. Actually, it's not that we "want" to quit, it's that now theres no money for it. We knew we were getting low, but when we did have a few dollars.... we got food instead. (ya can't eat cigarettes)
We rolled our own for years. It was cheaper than the name brand of smokes, and they all smoked the same. We have now 3 filters between us today, and that'll be it..... no more filters to make.
I've thought of quitting before, but it never seemed to the "right" time. I just hope I don't get too terribly crabby. After all the filters are gone, I'm putting the tobacco and the machine away, cleaning up the space on the counter where we kept it. I'm hopeing... out of sight - out of mind.
Any idea's on how to get thru this easier?

@prashu228 yeah, 30 years is a long time to be torturing the lungs, for sure. It is a bad habit that I started in my high school years.

to even try to quit is commendable, but the only way I did it was cuz I got so dern sick, my last ciggie caused me to cough so hard my lips turned purple .....yep, I was scared "straight" so to speak, wouldn't recommend getting sick though. I was a heavy smoker for 20 years, about 2 packs a day.

both my parents smoked for around 20~25 years, dad quit just because he decided he had enough and had to do it. mom quit a few years later basically because me and dad pressured her. but it stuck. both used a community program thing, they went to meetings with other people trying to quit and a guide, after I believe 2 month of slowly smoking less and less they stopped. they also took some kind of pill that should help you wanna smoke less, I can ask them what its called.
as for me I smoked for about 5 years, and once I got away from the situations I used to smoke in, I stopped. (workplace, some people etc...I tried just quitting, didn't really work but once I managed to get away from things that I associate with smoking it got better )

You hav taken a good decision about stopping smoking .. u can try the transdermal nicotine patch ... It should help you get through cessation of smoking ....

@MaddiOashi 30 years smoking for you both would have been really very injurious. I think you should chew gum to keep away the insect which tells you to smoke again and again.
