Why Can't A Queen Have Her King?

United States

Ok, I'm an American, but we do love to "watch the Royals" ....lol. When an English King is crowned, the wife is automactically made his Queen .... why isn't it the other way around also? Why is Prince Phillip not a King, along side Queen Elizabeth II. He was of a noble family himself, wasn't he? Also, I certainly don't aim to step on any toes here, but if the Royal Family has no "real" power anymore, just figure-heads now.... why have a "Royal Family"?

The same thing exists in Denmark. When a man becomes king his wife becomes queen, but when a woman becomes queen her husband doesn't become king. At the moment we have a queen and her husband is called "Prince" which doesn't make much sense at all. I am not sure where the difference comes from?

It is the same as while the wife of a president gets the title 'first lady; the husband of a lady president will not have any title!!
