It Occurs to Me, I Did Not Fully Explain

I keep talking about buying a house. What hubby and I bought is a side by side 1930's duplex. It is mirror image, meaning the living rooms and kitchens adjoin, and the bedrooms and baths are to the outside wall. Each side has a laundry room as well. The one tenant was to be out August 1, that is why we decided to buy it, so we could begin moving in. The other side is on a month by month lease and we gave verbal notice that that tenant will have to be out by the last day of September. Our plan is to take down the wall between the two small kitchens so we will have a large one. We will also open up at least part of the wall to join the living rooms, possibly with dining in the back of one.All that begins in October. Essentially we have purchased a four bedroom, two bath house once we get those things done. We took a few things to leave there yesterday, but did not do it, as there are still appliances and furniture and a mess in the apartment. I was able to get in touch with the tenant's mom who said they will finish it by this weekend. We will change locks on the doors and I will do some painting to start with. We will get it done eventually The picture is @Finlander60 in front of the shed/shop/garage Sorry if I was confusing.

Just a simple question. Why did the two of you buy those houses separately and now making them as one!!

It is connected, two apartments not separate houses. It was a way to obtain the amount of property and square foot area inside at a more economical price. We are quite poor and always have been. Because of the way the units were designed it will be easy to have them become a single house.

We hope so. Doing this conversion makes the space more affordable.

Often people buy big houses and cut them up to rent, we just are going backwards to that. With the simple design lines this should be easy.

Next Monday, if the first side is not cleared out, locks will be changed. I am actually going to offer the tenant on the other side an inducement to get out even earlier. Hope it all goes as planned.

Yes, I am even pleasantly surprised at the amount of closet storage in the bedrooms. Nice to see you here today.

It's sad that you had to talk to the tenant's mother. I guess that could explain why the tenant is no longer going to be there. I bet you can't wait to change those locks! That's really exciting to be able to knock down the wall and combine the living space. Sort of a fresh palate to work with.

My hubby talks about buying a little duplex house so that when winter comes he can camp in there, get to work easier and have a paying tenant on the other side. I'm not so sure about the scheme.
