Was talking to a friend about the difference in ages between people

We were talking specifically about married couples but it could apply to any two people. It used to be that a man was 6 years older than the wife but that seems to have changed now. I know both my husbands were 6 years older than me and my friends husband was 6 years older than her. In my family now there are two couples whose wives are older than them, one is 5 years older and the other is 2 years older. Today this seems to apply to a lot of couples.

Both my ex hubby and my present one are 7 years older than me. I just seem to never have anything or any interest in guys my own age.

I do know that in the olden days it was frowned upon a woman being the mans senior. I know both my husbands were older than me by 4 and 6 yrs.

Ocean, it was frowned upon if the woman was the mans senior but so much has changed and now no one cares who is the eldest or the youngest.

Funnily enough even though it is the norm to have an older husband, in my own family there have been several marriages of my aunts and uncles where the woman was older by 3-4 years and they have all been very happy.Of course now the same people frown upon their children getting involved with younger men/older women...

Could be Rose bit I was always under the impression that older men liked younger women, not all older men but some. Maybe the gals now are looking at the younger men instead of the other way around.

Me and my husband are only 3 months apart with him being older. The oldest I ever went with was only by a year older. Age doesn't really matter to me though. I have dated older and younger. It's the person I fall in love with. Not their age.

Daniella, how true it is the person not their age that matters really.

@Marcyaz Yes, but I still think it's a little creepy if someone 30 or 40 years older hit on me. No thanks.

My first husband and I were the same age. My current husband (and the best one!) is 4 years older. I don't think a few years either way matters.

My mother was almost eleven years older than my dad. His current wife is as well.

My daughter is three years older than her husband, but he definitely was a good match for her.

I'm older than my present partner by more than 6 years. When I was married my ex-wife was older than me by almost 2 years.

My father was only 1 year older than my mother, but his father (born in the 19th C) was 8 year older than my grandmother. I worked on census archives for the 19th C and the difference between spouses was during all the century between 6 and 10 years. It is only recently that it tends to be lower.

Actually, age is just a number. But the real test of a relationship is if the two people are truly compatible. If someone in their 40's marries someone in their 20's, they may be in love, but how much do they have in common. That is the key.
