Internet addictions

I am a member of a local discussion site and some time ago one of the members asked the admin to suspend her for a while. She had to study for her exam and she wasn't able to stay away from the site. The admin agreed to help her and he suspended her. Her request was unusual, the admin usually suspends people who violate the guidelines, but this woman asked him to suspend her. A few days later the woman created a new account and started using the site again. She simply couldn't stay away from the site.
Many people spend a lot of time online, but when you start neglecting other things like your studies the consequences can be severe. Sometimes my friends and I joke about internet addictions, but for some people it is a serious problem.
What is your opinion about internet addictions?

I for one am completely addicted. However, I have a control over my addiction (at least as far as internet is concerned). I spend almost 15-20 hours a day on Internet but that does not deter me from doing the other tasks that need to be attended to. I do cook during the day, I even get the groceries from the shop just infront of the house where I stay, I even go to my parents (okay, once a week if not earlier). We must realize the fact that Internet is a part of our day not the day itself.

I believe you when you say that you have control over your addiction. Many people spend lots of time online, and I don't think that it is a big problem as long as you can control it and don't neglect other parts of your life. Some people become so obsessed with the internet that they forget everything else, and that is a different situation.

@Porcospino Some months back, a news appeared on the newspapers and some social media too about someone who was hooked up on Internet and forgot feeding the baby for weeks. Weird, but I do understand that internet or even addictions to playing games can be hazardous. I recall in 2000, I played Diablo II for 48 hours straight on a network - ignoring even my lunch and bath. Probably that was the only time I had got so much engrossed and addicted. Luckily, I could come out of it as I realized how bad that can go.

@Porcospino Unfortunately, the mother underwent a trial (more so because it was a news under the World Column). Media (the newspapers here) did not follow it (the incident) up and the news went unnoticed by many. There were a few posts on FB about such incidents too.
The one I read having some positivity was this one -
It is about some game named ReMisson which they claim should be played by teens with cancer and the tests have yielded some good results.
Deep inside your body, an evil nuclear tyrant has captured your cells to make a giant tumor, and the gnarly mutant cells are now marching on your blood vessels. The evil invaders pile up, threatening to enter the bloodstream.
