I just found out this past weekend, that coconut oil is great for dogs, as it has healiing properties in it. I have one dog, that I rescued three years ago this past April. I didn't know what she had at first, as her abdomen is all black and she is a creme color. I have recently found out that it is a yeast infection, and so I figured if I changed her diet, that would help. It has helped a little, but the coconut oil will get rid of it, and prevent it from coming back. She scratches and scratches, and I really feel sorry for her. Now that I have the coconut oil, I give her some everyday, just a small amount until her body gets used to it, and then I will give her more each week, until she gets a teaspoon every day. I can also rub it into her skin, and that will help her too. I haven't done it that way yet, though, as I don't want her licking it off before it soaks into her skin. It comes in differnt forms, but the best is virgin coconut oil, unrefined, and in solid form. I have tasted it, and I can certainly understand why my dog really likes it, as it tastes good. I like coconut anyway, so that is no problem at all. I am glad that I found thiis out so now, I can help her by clearing up her infection. I love my animals and I want to take the best care of them that I can.

It's good to know this. I didn't know about this. It's so kind of you to take care of the animals. I have recently heard that garlic can help the dog to prevent from any bugs, I am not sure if it's true.

I didn't know about coconut oil either, but now that I have heard, I am using it on her everyday, plust I give it to her orally as well. I was told that Apple Cider Vinegar is good for fleas, but it has to be diluted. I don't know what the ratio is though, so I don't use it at all. Thank you for your response, and have fun in mylot.

@kaka135 I do give her coconut oil orally as well as I put it on her skin. I had seen a vet on the internet do the same thing with her dog. as well. The thing about giving it to her orally, is I start out small, as if I give her to much, then it can cause diarrhea. My dogs love it though, so I just give them a small amount once a day.

She still scratches, but that is to be expected, as it takes awhile to get through her system. i give her the coconut oil everyday though, or almost everyday, and I think it is really helping here. I will find out more when I take her to the groomers this weekend.

hmm, I didn't know you could use that on dogs. I amtotally surprised about the coconut oil though, as I would have never thought it would heal. I am going to try it and see. I give it to her orally, but I also think I will rub some on her skin, and hope it sinks in before she can lick it off. Thank you for responding. and have fun.

I've been using it in my dogs' dinner for the last month. You're right, Organic Virgin Unrefined is the best one because it has all of the anti-bacterial/fungal/viral properties to it. I cook my dogs steak or chicken and then at the very end I put some on top of the meat and let it melt right in. I'm mostly using it for my chihuahua-mix who has really bad teeth but has a heart murmur and bad kidneys so they can't do any type of a dental on him. I've been relying on it as a broad-spectrum antibiotic. I think it's helping (?) I hope.

It is amazing that something like coconut oil would be given to dogs for healing and such. I wish I had known this when I first got her, as I was prerplexed as to what to do, and what she even had. Now the vet told me it is anallerlgy, and recommended some acidic wipes for her, to help. They did no good, and I wasn't going to spend anymore on them. I don't know why he never mentioned coconut oil, except maybe he wants money, so anything that will take money away from him, he wasn't going to mention.I am hoping by putting it on her skin as well as giving it to here orally, will do the trick. Thank you for responding, and have fun.

@Gina145 Me too, as she has scratched so much, that it hard for me to watch it. I know it will take time to heal, but I am going to just keep using it on her, and when she is healed, I will continue to give it to here orally, to keep the infection from coming back.

@rosekiss I think you're right that the vet wants money. Vets and doctors make their living out of sick people so they're not too keen to recommend natural remedies that will keep people well. I've never heard of people giving coconut oil to dogs before but I've heard of its healing properties, so it makes sense that it should be good for dogs to. I hope it helps your dog to get over her problems.

I found the healing properties of coconut oil a couple of years ago when I had some health issues. It's wonderful! Very gentle and healing. You reminded me that I can use it on my dogs! One of them is having an issue with some kind of cyst, poor thing. I am sure it will be very soothing for her. Thanks for your post! If you ever want to know about other natural remedies and herbs, don't hesitate to ask. It is a hobby for me. There are lots of gentle remedies that can be used with pets and kids.

I certainly will. Iam really surprised that coconut oil is good for dogs. I started rubbing it intto her skin, but I know it will take awhile to heal, but maybe by doing this, it might heal faster. She loves it, and I make sure she doesn't try to lick it off before it has a chance to soak in. I am thinking that maybe putting it on her skin twice a day, might help it heal faster. I just wish I knew more about it, but I am glad it won't harm her. Thanks for your response. and have fun.

I wish I had found out about this a few years back, as my dog wouldn't have to itching and scratching all the time. Who would have thought that conconut oil would have lots of healing properties. I put some on her skin yesterday, as well as give here someo orally. I think that by doing both, it will help clear up her skin. Thank you for your response, and have fun in mylot.

@rosekiss I use coconut oil but always buy cold pressed organic coconut oil. I cook with it and use it for oil pulling. I've read that it has many health benefits. I think it's great that you're treating your dog with it. I've read that it has excellent health benefits for them as well as for people.

That is the same coconut oil that I purchased. I read that it is the best. I decided yesterday, to put some on her skin as well, especially on her yeastt infection. I know it will take time to heal, but I hope in time, that she will not be scratching and itching anymore. Thank you for your response, and have fun.
