This Uncle was one my fathers older brothers who lived about 45 minutes from us in a small rural area and we used to go and visit there when I was a youngster. I have such fond memories of going there and being out of the city. I was always told not to try and pet the pigs although I would have at my young age loved to have petted one of them.

I grew up on a farm! I used to get right in there with the cows and pigs to feed them, with my dad. Of course, when I was older... like 8 or 10 when I started helping out.

My parents and I lived in the city so for me going out to see the farm was a real treat. I have never fed a pig or a cow but I am not afraid of them so I would be a able to help out with them now. The only pets I had were dogs, cats or a guinea pig.

My grandmother lived opposite a pig farm and I remember the smell more than anything. Or i remember that it smelled but it was so long ago, I can't remember exactly what it smelled like, lol.

I hope to own a farm in the future although, it'll likely be just cows and goats. Perhaps a couple of chickens and geese. I'll pass on the pigs... far too much work keeping their pens clean. LOL!

I had a "return to nature" period in my life. During about 3 years I bred rabbits. They were needing less space than pigs, and they have less diseases.

@topffer..I also bred rabbits..I can trying to see how many different colors i could get and wound up with over 100..sadly we just couldn't control them so my ex killed them all and we had to give frozen rabbits to all to eat..

My grandparents and uncles had cattle and chickens and horses. We could hold one of the hens.

One just cannot help but pet a pigling. I have done that. I can never forget that movie about that pig - I do not quite remember the title of that movie.

I never have been to a farm really. Not like that. My mother told me stories when she was young, her aunt had a farm update New York. She had chickens and pigs and sold the eggs in the city. She used to drive up there when she was small. I never seen that farm because my aunt sold it for a song. I was born way after that.

Too bad you never got to see the farm as I know you would have enjoyed it. As I understand it lots of women would gather the eggs on the farm and take them into the city to sell them for extra money for the family.

@Marcyaz Well, I guess it's my loss then. I was born and raised here in New York City. So even the suburbs looks like farms to me. LOL.

I have been to several pig farms in my life Marcy. They were fun for me, though some people would not like them because of the smell..it did not bother me and I loved to see the pigs. Good you have those memories, those special memories of your uncles pig farm. Love that photo of the piggies

I was trying to take the best pictures and most interesting to me. I loved seeing all the pigs and some of them were really huge. It is fun thinking back on when we went to my uncles farm and saw the pigs and everyone, my cousins (all boys) were much older than me but I loved seeing them also.

I have spent a quarter of my life working with poultry, specifically turkeys, more than chickens. I was a vaccinator on a turkey farm for two years, a manager in a turkey hatchery for almost sixteen years, and six months in a chicken hatchery, Even though the hours were long, I loved the work.

I think turkeys are so nice looking even better than chickens. I bet you must have loved that type of work Melvin to have been in it for so many years.

@Marcyaz It takes a great deal of eff0rt and it is a live product, so you actually put more into it. You have to truly have to love what you do.

@Daljinder HAHAHAHAHA! I had to explain to Fuzzball about a week ago how much you didn't like them cause for some reason we were talking about pigs. A farm like that would be nice to walk around too.

@VivaLaDani13 DJ and Pigs Those are two words that never should be mentioned in a single sentence together or heck even in a single conversation.

@VivaLaDani13 I have been on farms many many times but I didn't see any animals. Only fields of rice, wheat, sugarcane spanning for miles and miles P. S. I will pretend that I did not read the last two sentences of your response.
